Single Setting:
> Give details about where they are slowly, gradually explaining what they see. Big picture comes first - then small details.
> Build relationships with a few choice characters at the location, but don't forget side characters. Nurses, cleaning staff, teachers, visitors, etc.
> Don't neglect little real-life issues. Insurances, accidents, friends and distant relatives, cars getting towed, etc.
> If there's a need to cut to a character outside of the location, do a brief outside scene that benefits the story going on inside.
> Don't neglect the side characters' reactions to whatever's going on. As yourself 'what would I do in that situation?' and use that to reflect some of the background characters. Random guy is curious. Some girl jumps up to be a human shield. Etc
> Main characters split up. Go into detail about their different jobs in relation to the story.
> The solution to whatever problem either has to start with a conversation with antagonist to figure out their plan, or a definitive confrontation.
> If the conflict is amoral and there is no solid enemy, make both sides of it equally convincing, appealing, and consequential.
> If the conflict(s) is faced by more than one character, make them face it separately. They can't all make the same choice.
> There can be serious conflict between characters (friendly) as long as it doesn't alienate them entirely for stupid reasons.
> Conclude story with a little tiny bit of resolution between characters that helps them grow.
> Finish story with a few subtle loose ends.
